The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University is divided into two groups for the subject test. Do you know the difference between them?
  • Physics (Subject-Specific Test) X1.0
  • Chemistry (Subject-Specific Test) X1.0
  • Mathematics A (Subject-Specific Test) X1.0
  • Natural Science (University Entrance Exam) X1.0
  • English (University Entrance Exam) X1.0

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Group A (Illinois Dual Degree Program) — 3+2 program and a 50,000 NT entrance scholarship are waiting for you.

>Dual Degree Program Priority Recommendation<
Students who choose the Illinois Dual Degree track in the subject-specific selection will be given priority for recommendation to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (one of the top five materials science departments in the United States).

The 3+2 Dual Degree Program allows students to earn both a bachelor's degree from NYCU and a master's degree from the University of Illinois in just 5 years, completing the program a year earlier than the standard timeline. This allows students to enter the U.S. job market earlier, significantly boosting their competitiveness. The starting salary for a materials science master's graduate in the U.S. is approximately 2.4 million TWD (80,000 USD), meaning that entering this program is like gaining an additional year of salary and work experience compared to a traditional academic path. (Please click #University of Illinois for more information.)

>Scholarship Program: 50,000 TWD Entrance Scholarship Awaiting You<
When filling out the subject-specific selection, NYCU's Department of Materials Science will allocate three spots as independent choices. Students who choose the Illinois Dual Degree track in Materials Science will receive a 50,000 TWD entrance scholarship, which will be disbursed upon registration. No additional application is required, making it an attractive option for top-performing students to join the Department of Materials Science at NYCU! (Please click #Materials Science Entrance Exam Group A for more information.)

► NYCU Department of Materials Science Group B – Students with good performance in school can also apply for various resources.

>Both Group A and Group B can apply for the TSMC Program.<

The NYCU Department of Materials Science is a key recruitment partner for TSMC. Students in this department can apply for the TSMC Program, a collaboration between NYCU and TSMC, which allows students to engage with the semiconductor industry during their university years. The required courses in the Department of Materials Science closely align with the TSMC Program's curriculum. By taking 18 additional credits, NYCU students can meet the TSMC Program's course requirements. Moreover, third-year students are given priority for TSMC internships, and upon graduation, they have the opportunity for a full-time job interview. Students enrolled in the TSMC Program at NYCU will even earn a higher salary than typical master's graduates joining TSMC! (Please click #TSMC Program for more information.)

>Both Group A and Group B Can Apply for the Interdisciplinary Trinity Program

There is also the interdisciplinary Trinity Program designed for students who have not yet decided on their interests. This program, which integrates courses from the Department of Materials Science, Department of Optoelectronics, and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, allows students to explore courses from the College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering, and College of Science. Through this exploration, students can discover their interests and talents while cultivating interdisciplinary expertise in materials, optoelectronics, and electronic physics. Students in the Trinity Program only need to complete 38 credits in required courses for their department, with flexible modules that allow for the development of a second specialization. (Please click #Trinity Program for more information.) Additionally, students in Group B who perform well and have outstanding academic achievements can also apply for the 3+2 Dual Degree Program!
